Wiretaps

How the FBI and corporations take your rights and make billions doing so

Ever wonder how the FBI monitors an Activists telephone or email?

Well The Loyal Nine is going to blow the lid off that for you. Basically federal agents have a tool called DCS-3000. I know it sounds like some kind of power engine but its not. Its a windows based application that any agent can install on their workstation or laptop. It gives them the instant ability to wiretap any phone, email, text message account, Instant messenger account, VOIP account... basically anything you can think of, in less then 3 clicks of a mouse.

[Wired.com] Point, Click ... Eavesdrop: How the FBI Wiretap Net Operates

An owl, an animal known for its exceptional vision dominates the logo of the Telecommunications Intercept and Collection Technology Unit, or TICTU, which developed the DCS-3000. This enhanced image is based on black-and-white FBI documents.

The FBI has quietly built a sophisticated, point-and-click surveillance system that performs instant wiretaps on almost any communications device, according to nearly a thousand pages of restricted documents newly released under the Freedom of Information Act.

The surveillance system, called DCSNet, for Digital Collection System Network, connects FBI wiretapping rooms to switches controlled by traditional land-line operators, internet-telephony providers and cellular companies. It is far more intricately woven into the nation's telecom infrastructure than observers suspected.

[BORDC] Representatives Hold Town Hall Meetings

Freedom Of Speech rockwell 388x480.jpg

From our friends at the BORDC,

It's not too late to give Congress a piece of your mind within your legislators' home district before the August recess ends on September 4! BORDC has found a list of many of the town hall meetings scheduled across the country, and we'd like to share it with you, asking that you use it to speak out about the recently passed Orwellian "Protect America Act"!

Please go to your local meeting with as many allies as you can gather and tell your representatives that warrantless wiretapping violates our fundamental rights to privacy, and threatens each of us. We're being treated as terrorist suspects by our own government when it demands the right to eavesdrop on our conversations and emails with no particularized suspicion.

BORDC Action Alert: Stop House bill to expand warrantless NSA program

It's up to each of us to stop Congress from acting out of fear. Your elected representatives are being called on by the White House to vote this week to expand the administration's powers to spy on your telephone and e-mail communications without warrants. Using the threat of a terrorist attack, the administration is urging reform of the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act (FISA), which is meant to protect Americans from warrantless government spying.

CIA’s “Family Jewels” Released

Read the "Family Jewels" documents

New documents released through the Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) show extreme misconduct by the CIA in both foreign and domestic affairs.  These documents have been referred to as the “Family Jewels” because of the surreptitious and questionable activities they describe.

Files on Illegal Spying Show C.I.A. Skeletons From Cold War (NY Times)

WASHINGTON, June 26 — Long-secret documents released Tuesday provide new details about how the Central Intelligence Agency illegally spied on Americans decades ago, including trying to bug a Las Vegas hotel room for evidence of infidelity and tracking down an expert lock-picker for a Watergate conspirator.

Restore the Rule of Law, June 26th Rally

On June 26, 2007, join us in Washington, D.C. as we call on Congress to restore habeas corpus, fix the Military Commissions Act, and restore our constitutional rights. Rally with us outside the Capitol, then help deliver our urgent message in person to your Members of Congress. This is your chance to make your voice heard!

Stop Bush from 'modernizing' FISA

The Bush Administration's proposed bill to "modernize" the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act (FISA) would make its recent promise to end its warrantless wiretapping program virtually meaningless. For example, the bill's proposed redefinition of "electronic surveillance" would allow warrantless surveillance of all Americans' international calls and emails--so long as by sweeping up the content of everyone's communications they are not targeting anyone in particular.

FBI taps cell phone mic as eavesdropping tool

The FBI appears to have begun using a novel form of electronic surveillance in criminal investigations: remotely activating a mobile phone's microphone and using it to eavesdrop on nearby conversations.

The technique is called a "roving bug," and was approved by top U.S. Department of Justice officials for use against members of a New York organized crime family who were wary of conventional surveillance techniques such as tailing a suspect or wiretapping him.
