Friday, August 15th marked the kickoff of The Loyal Nine in Huntington, NY. The massive blackout which obstructed many people from coming through the L.I.R.R. did not hinder activities. Numbers were in the hundreds; filling the town with the voices of freedom

Whether it was break dancing, kids on street corners with guitars or the occasional speaker, the message was out there. We don’t want the Patriot Act. Spectators, wondering what the crowd was protesting, walked away horrified after finding out about the unconstitutional act. Groups such as the Huntington Bill of Rights Committee received a pleasant surprise after receiving almost a thousand signatures for a petition asking the town of Huntington not to abide by the Patriot Act. It looks like Huntington will soon join the hundreds of towns throughout the nation formally saying no to Patriot. The Loyal Nine kickoff in Huntington is the first city of what will be many in the next couple of months. New York City, Albany and Boston are all expected to kickoff before the end of September. Keep your eyes open, you’ll see a lot more in the next couple of weeks.
