History of The Loyal Nine

in

The Loyal Nine is a non-politically affiliated organization whose sole purpose is the defense of the Bill of Rights and human freedom. The organization is currently known for its campaign against legislation like the USA PATRIOT Act, Real ID Act, DSEA 2003 and the VICTORY Act.

Origins:
While the original founding date of The Loyal Nine is unknown historians believe the organization started for the purposes of protesting the Stamp Act. The organization would later be credited with creating the foundation for the Revolutionary War.

By many accounts The Loyal Nine was the militant and radical inner circle of the Sons of Liberty. Its members were mostly made up of artisans and shopkeepers. Famous members of The Loyal Nine include Paul Revere and Benjamin Franklin.

Revival:
After the signing of the Bill of Rights in 1791 the members of The Loyal Nine decided to disperse vowing to reform their organization if the embodiment of human freedom was ever endanger.

More than 200 years later, in August of 2003, a group of student civil liberties activist from Huntington, NY decided it was time to resurrect the group. These activists decided to bring back The Loyal Nine because of the damage caused by the USA PATRIOT Act and the threat of subsequent legislation like “Patriot Act 2”, DSEA 2003 and the VICTORY Act.

Shortly after the reformation of The Loyal Nine the group had dozens of chapters across the Eastern and Western American Coast. The Loyal Nine has also been responsible for some of the largest demonstrations against the USA PATRIOT Act in the past four years.

Currently The Loyal Nine is still fighting against the USA PATRIOT Act and other similar forms of legislation like the Real ID Act.

Resolutions:
Since it’s inception The Loyal Nine has helped numerous communities and Bill of Rights Defense Campaigns (BORDC’s) draft and pass resolutions against the threats to civil liberties. In February of 2004 The Loyal Nine added the New York City Bill of Rights Defense Campaign (NYCBORDC) in pushing the NYC council to pass Resolution 60, which helped protect the 8 million residents of NYC from certain egregious sections of the USA PATRIOT Act.

More notably, In September of 2004, The Loyal Nine working along side the Suffolk Bill of Rights Defense Campaign helped pass the Huntington Resolution Reaffirming the Bill of Rights (HRRBR). The legislation is arguably the farthest-reaching resolution ever passed against the USA PATRIOT Act. HRRBR is still in effect and protecting Huntington's population of 200,000 residents.

Organizational Dynamic:
The Loyal Nine is not a conventional political organization. In fact, The Loyal Nine holds no political persuasion at all. The Loyal Nine is strictly a name that holds the embodiment of the Bill of Rights and is therefore open for all protectors of freedom to use. The organization is neither conservative nor liberal and our membership ranges from anarchists to republicans.

"They that can give up essential liberty to obtain a
little temporary safety deserve neither liberty nor safety."

- Benjamin Franklin, 1759
